Highlights and Novelties
1- This article provides a comprehensive survey of controlling problems with multiple UAVs.

2- Both centralized and distributed approaches to control UAV groups are provided and discussed.

3- Other approaches as leader-follower, behavior-based, and virtual structure are also categorized to clarify the problems in controlling.

4- AI based control problems are also provided to point out framework for controlling UAVs with better performance.

Manuscript Abstract
Currently, the interests in driving more autonomous vehicles such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) continues to grow rapidly for applications such as weather monitoring, animal surveying, geo-mapping, and extraterrestrial exploration. The task of continuous monitoring is of particular significance because the target area needs to be continuously surveyed, minimizing the time between visits to the same area. However, the dynamic limitations and durability of aerial vehicles add complexity to the problem of autonomous control. In addition, the operating environment of the UAVs is random and vehicle failure causes uncertainty. Hence, controlling problems for a group of UAV to be able to meet all requirements for a mission are complicated. This paper aims to classify common controlling approaches for UAV with different tasks. Control algorithms are categorized into different types, centralized, distributed. In addition, the control approaches are categorized into three popular strategies, leader-follower, behavior-based, and virtual structure and discussed. Challenges in controlling the UAVs are addressed and discussed. Opening issues are provided for future developments.
